How to Prep Your Space for an Interior Photoshoot

Posted by philipraymond on December 18, 2024

So, you've poured your heart and soul (and probably a good chunk of your budget!) into creating a stunning interior design. Now it's time to capture its beauty with professional photography. But before I arrive with my camera, there are a few things you can do to ensure we get the absolute best shots of your design.

Consider this your ultimate checklist for prepping a space for a photoshoot

Declutter, Declutter, Declutter

I know, "less is more" is a design mantra you live by! But even the most carefully curated spaces can benefit from a pre-photoshoot declutter. Think about removing excess items from surfaces like countertops, coffee tables, and nightstands. Tuck away personal items like mail, remotes, and charging cables. The goal is to highlight the key design elements without distractions.

Stage for Success:

Furniture Arrangement: Ensure furniture is placed in a way that is both visually appealing and functional. Consider traffic flow and how the space will be used.

Pillow Talk: Fluff those pillows! Plump them up and arrange them neatly on sofas and beds.

Artful Arrangements: Art and accessories should be strategically placed to add interest and personality to the space.

Let There Be Light

Natural Light is King: Whenever possible, schedule the photoshoot during a time when the space is flooded with natural light.

Clean Those Windows: Make sure windows are sparkling clean to maximize the amount of light coming in.

Artificial Light Matters Too: Replace any burnt-out light bulbs and consider the colour temperature of your lighting. Warm light creates a cozy atmosphere, while cool light can feel more modern.

The Finishing Touches

Spotless Surfaces Dust all surfaces, including furniture, shelves, and light fixtures.

Floor Care Vacuum or mop floors to remove any dirt or debris.

Mirror, Mirror Give mirrors a good clean to avoid any streaks or smudges.

Hide the Evidence Tuck away any cleaning supplies or tools before the photoshoot.

By following these tips, you'll ensure your design shines in the final photographs. Remember, we're a team! Clear communication and collaboration are key to a successful photoshoot. Let's work together to capture images that truly represent your design vision.
